Horses of Iceland is pleased to share that our partner

Íslandshestar

has been named among the world’s four best multi-day riding adventures.

Íslandshestar’s

Landmannalaugar – Mt. Hekla Tour

was named by Alyssa Mathews, the award-winning filmmaker and equestrian traveller behind

Discover The Horse

. Alyssa is undertaking a long-term project to ride and document every horse breed in the world and has, to date, ridden more than 150 breeds across more than 30 countries.

Her work in Iceland began through Horses of Iceland, which connected her with Icelandic breeders and professional partners back in 2017.

“Early on, Horses of Iceland introduced me to knowledgeable breeders and professional partners in Iceland. Those connections have shaped much of my work.”
— Alyssa Mathews, Discover The Horse

In her recent video, “4 of the World’s Best Multi-Day Horseback Adventures for 2026,” (see below) Íslandshestar was featured alongside riding experiences from very different regions of the world. The Landmannalaugar – Mt. Hekla Tour was highlighted for its setting, the role of the Icelandic horse, and the overall riding experience.

We congratulate Íslandshestar on this recognition, which reflects the unique experience of discovering the Icelandic horse in the environment that shapes it.
